Terrell Allen hits game-winner to lift Drexel over Elon in CAA Tournament

Terell Allen hit a game-winning jumper with 25 seconds left and Drexel beat Elon, 57-56, in the first round of the CAA Tournament on Friday night in Baltimore.

The ninth-seeded Dragons had just three wins during conference play in the regular season, but jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead against the Phoenix. Allen, a freshman guard, ended with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Tavon Allen led the way with 17 points, and the Dragons advanced to face top-seeded Hofstra in a Saturday quarterfinal at noon. In the paint, forward Rodney Williams had nine points (going 5-for-7 from the line) and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Elon led 55-51 with 5:51 left, but the Phoenix scored just one point the rest of the way. Luke Eddy had 11 points for Elon, and was the only player in double-figures.

Drexel went 0-2 against Hofstra in the regular season, falling 70-64 in the second meeting at home.

Delaware’s season ends against College of Charleston

The Blue Hens tough season came to an end in the first round of the CAA Tournament, as they fell 67-63 to Charleston.

Kory Holden missed a potential game-tying layup with three seconds left, allowing Charleston to ice the game at the free throw line. The Hens ended the season at 7-23 and they went 2-16 in conference play during the regular season.

Holden had a game-high 30 points and went 10-for-25 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers while grabbing seven rebounds. Skye Johnson added 15 points off the bench for Delaware, hitting seven of his eight shots.
