Another hoops season is quickly approaching. Basketballs have already started bouncing this week with workouts and open gyms under way. Fall events will soon get going, preseason stories will soon start rolling out, and CoBL is looking for some help to assist our one-of-a-kind year-round coverage.

We are looking for writers with varying degrees of experience to join our talented staff of contributors. We have positions available for the following:

• Senior contributors: Writers with a significant amount of sports journalism experience will get a chance to tackle exciting features and provide game coverage for high-level high school and college hoops in the area, including the city’s Big 5 men’s and women’s Division I programs. Senior contributors are paid per story at a higher rate than contributors.
• Contributors: College students and recent graduates with some journalism experience, who get paid while gaining real experience in the field and honing their craft while working with CoBL’s staff and editors. Writers will get the opportunity to cover games at the high school and small college level and potentially get credentialed for Division I games as well. Contributors are paid per story.
• Interns: High school and college students without experience but interested in writing, basketball and/or journalism are welcome to join our team. Part of our mission over the last 11 years has been to develop the next generation of journalists and our editors and staff put in the time to give writers of all levels on-the-job training and mentorship. Interns are not paid, but interns are frequently promoted to contributors once able.

We are also excited to announce that this year we are offering a pair of paid collegiate editor positions for qualified college students. These two local students will receive a $4,000 stipend to cover Big 5 basketball for City of Basketball Love. These students will preferably be juniors or seniors with experience in sportswriting who will chronicle Big 5 basketball via game stories, one-on-one interviews, features, and more. They will also have the opportunity to cover conference tournaments and, hopefully, the NCAA Tournament as well.
