Strengths: This smooth guard is more of the traditional point guard who looks to pass first, which is becoming extinct in today’s game. He has great size which makes him a high-major player. Great in the open court at finishing and dishing. Good pick-and-roll player, not real explosive but quick and shifty which gets him to the basket, great at distributing. Good shooter. Basketball IQ is that of a high-major point guard.
Weaknesses: Too passive when his scoring is needed at times. Needs to be more aggressive whether it’s passing or scoring. Could be better defensively. Would like to see him take command of the ship more often by making more plays.
Overall: Carr has a throwback game which scouts and coaches love; he likes to get his team rolling first before he starts to get it going himself. His size and savvy are why major Division I colleges were looking to land him before he committed to Penn State in August. Has the chance to earn a starting spot right away upon his arrival in State College as long as he continues to work on his body throughout his senior year.
