Strengths: A very good shooter, Funk is a face-up power forward who loves to find free space on the wings, where he doesn’t need much room to rise up and knock down his shot. Can put the ball on the floor once or twice, though he’s not going to be creating off the bounce just yet. Does a good job defensively in the post of staying straight up, using his length well without fouling to frustrate driving guards. Good passer with good hands, and doesn’t try to force too much offensively. Solid athlete who moves well for his size.
Weaknesses: Needs to become stronger to help him finish around the rim as well as pull in rebounds, as he can get out-muscled by stronger, shorter forwards a little too easily.
Overall: If he gets stronger and tougher over the next two years, Funk has the requisite size and shooting ability to get into the mid-high major range, with a fluid body and good basketball IQ. Will get interest from a lot of low-to-mid level schools until that happens, thanks to his terrific upside once he hits a college weight program.
