Strengths: A sharpshooting guard with a quick trigger, Betley doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off. Capable of knocking down a few perimeter shots in a hurry, Betley also knows how to use the mid-range pull-up, and has a good feel around the basket and can get creative when things break down. Has very good size for the off-guard position, and sees the floor well. Rebounds well from the guard position.
Weaknesses: Though he’s not afraid of contact, Betley needs to work on playing more physical and finishing strong around the rim by continuing to work on his upper-body strength. Handle is solid but still could be better; needs to become a more consistent shooter off the bounce. Sometimes gets a little too quick to shoot after he’s made a shot or two.
Overall: When he’s on, Betley is easily capable of dropping 20-plus points, and he’s more than just a 3-point jump shooter. If he can stay aggressive during a key summer for him, he should pick up some more looks in the low-to-mid-major range, on programs that like to space the floor and create for shooters to do their thing.
