Strengths: A very good spot up shooter who can also put the ball on the floor, McTamney can cause a nightmare of matchup problems if you decide to guard him with a big man of his size. Very versatile, moves in a guard-like manner on the floor and can also make jump-shots off the dribble. A very good pick-and-pop player who will knock down mid-range and 3-point jumpers with abandon if the defense is late to recover. Has shown the ability to attack the rim off the bounce against forwards and finish tough shots around the rim.
Weaknesses: Settles for the jumpshot to often, needs to look to drive more often. Has to be a better rebounder. Needs to continue to improve lateral quickness and adding strength to be able to body up opposing forwards.
Overall: La Salle’s 6-5 swingman has shown a world of potential in the past few weeks of the summer period. Although he has a pretty consistent jumpshot; Ryan’s future of what level he will play will come down to him making plays around the paint. Look for plenty of D-II and D-III schools to get involved.
