This Friday night and Saturday, 32 teams will head to North Broad Street to participate in Temple’s high school team camp.

The list of teams (from Pa. unless otherwise noted): Abington, Appoquinimink (Del.), Archbishop Ryan, Baltimore Poly (Md.), Burlington City (N.J.), Camden (N.J.), Central Bucks West, Central Dauphin East, Cherry Hill East (N.J.), Cherokee (N.J.), Chester, Episcopal Academy, Germantown Academy, Girard College, Haddon Heights (N.J.), Haverford School, Iona Prep (N.Y.), Malvern Prep, La Salle College HS, Notre Dame (N.J.), Pennsbury, Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Roman Catholic, Simon Gratz, Smyrna (Del.), St. Frances Academy (Md.), Team Durant (Md.), Team Final, Team St8ment (Md.), Team Speed (N.J.), WeR1 (Del.), West Catholic

Here’s a few teams to keep an eye on:

  • The defending District 1 6A champions, Abington boasts the area’s most productive underclassman each of the last two years, Eric Dixon. The 6-foot-8 big-bodied lefty is starting to get recognized as one of the best post prospects in his class, earning an invite to the USA Basketball U16 training camp and pulling in offers from the likes of Penn State, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Georgetown and More. Dixon’s classmate, 6-5 guard Lucas Monroe, pulled in an offer from La Salle last week. Then there’s senior point guard Robbie Heath, a scholarship-level 6-1 guard and four-year starter for the Galloping Ghosts.

  • Roman Catholic (Pa.) added former Kingway shooting guard Hakim Hart to the mix earlier this offseason, and he becomes yet another weapon for head coach Matt Griffin. The Cahillites already boast one of the area's 2020 guards in Lynn Greer III, a 6-6 high-major wing recruit in Seth Lundy and senior 6-3 guard Allen Betrand, a mid-major recruit as well. The only thing Roman really lacks is a true big man -- Lundy, who projects as a ‘3,’ jumps center -- but their guard-heavy attack will prove to be nearly unguardable by most of their opponents.

  • La Salle College HS features a pair of impressive 2019 prospects in 6-8 Zach Crisler and 6-7 Konrad Kiszka, and though their heights are similar their games are not. Crisler is a stretch-forward with great fluidity who’s still only just beginning to realize his potential; that’s still enough for him to hold offers from Penn State, TCU, St. Joe’s, Drexel, ODU, Iona and Columbia. Kizska is a big wing who’s starting to feel more comfortable in his own frame, which has grown about two inches over the last eight months, and when he’s locked in his shows stretches of some serious ability to score from all three levels, play above the rim and guard multiple spots. Their classman, Allan Powell, is a developing prospect and senior Sean Simon is one of the area’s top best shooters.

  • Winners of the Under Armour Association in two of the last three summers, WeR1 will be sending its 17U squad to compete for the weekend as a tuneup for the UAA Finals next month. As has been the case in past years, the team is built around its backcourt, which features top-100 prospects and high-major recruits Eric Ayala (2018/Putnam Science, Conn.) and Isaiah Wong (2019/Notre Dame, N.J.). Joining them on the wing is 2017 William Allen graduate Tyrese Martin, who has garnered high-major looks in his own right since opting for a prep year at a to-be-determined school; Archbishop Ryan grad Izaiah Brockington has also earned a number of mid-major offers since decommitting from NJIT and announcing his intention to prep at Woodstock Academy (Conn.). While this is a perimeter-based team, it’s not lacking for inside punch, as rim-runner Ajiri Johnson (2018/Bonner-Prendergast), low-block scorer Marcus Littles (2018/Neumann-Goretti), and inside-out threat Alanzo Frink (2018/Roselle Catholic, N.J.) all have an abundance of mid-major looks of their own.

  • Another of the few AAU teams in attendance amongst the other HS programs, Team St8ment has established itself as one of the top 16U teams in the nation in its first year since separating from the Team Durant moniker. The Baltimore-heavy squad features potential Temple targets in 6-foot-6 swingman Mekhi Long (2019/St. Mary’s Ryken, Md.) and 5-foot-10 floor general Jonathan McGriff (2019/Bishop McNamara, Md.). Also worth monitoring for the Owls is Jay Heath (2019/Bishop O’Connell, Md.), a hard-nosed, microwave scorer who’s had a great offseason thus far.

  • Iona Prep is led by one of the top rising junior guards in the nation, Bryce Wills, who recently picked up offers from Stanford and Miami to go along with those from Villanova, UConn, and Providence, among others. The Gaels are far from a one-man show, as 2018 swingman Souleymane Koureissi has begun to garner high-major interest and classmate Josh Alexander has emerged as a priority for the high-academic conferences.

  • Last year, Baltimore Poly produced incoming Owls freshman Devondre Perry, a bruising 6-foot-6 wing who plays with a violence to his game that will endear him to Temple fans from day one. The Robin to his Batman was rising senior guard Demetrius Mims, a mid-major recruit right now who could see a breakout as a senior. Having obviously invested time in Perry’s recruitment, the Owls haven’t offered Mims yet, but have him on their radar in the 2018 class.
