The Penn Quakers handled Yale on the road to pick up their fourth straight win and move into a tie with Columbia in the last Ivy League playoff spot, downing the Bulldogs by a convincing final of 71-55.

At First…
Penn got off to a hot start in the early going, taking a quick 11-2 lead, on the wings of five fast points by Darnell Foreman. After a response from Yale, Penn pushed the lead back out to nine at the 11-minute mark, opening up a 23-14 advantage on a Matt Howard triple.

Yale continued to hang around despite several brief runs by the Quakers – including a three by Ryan Betley that had Penn up by seven with just under three-and-a-half minutes to go. The Bulldogs finished the half with momentum in hand after a 9-2 run, and entered the break down by just one thanks to two Sam Downey free throws that cut the Penn lead to 31-30 in the final 30 seconds.

Turning Point…
It was in the second half that things started to turn in favor of the visiting Quakers, who scored the first 13 points out of the gate to take a commanding 44-30 lead on a three-pointer by Foreman. Five minutes later, a Devon Goodman layup had Penn rolling with a 52-35 advantage as they began to run away from the Bulldogs.

The Quakers’ largest lead came the 6:17 mark on a Foreman layup that increased the advantage to 20, as Penn put the finishing touches on a dominant second half.

Standout Stars…
Penn had a very balanced scoring attack, with five different players in double digits. Leading the way with 15 was Foreman, while A.J. Brodeur also had 12 points and nine rebounds.

As for Yale, Miye Oni led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds while Downey added nine points and seven boards.

Noteworthy Numbers…
40: Penn made its presence felt in the key, outscoring Yale in the painted area by a tally of 40-20.

10: While the Quakers turned the ball over 10 times, they minimized the damage from those mistakes by only allowing four points off of turnovers.
