A slow first half plagued Drexel, as the Dragons fell by a score of 65-56 at the hands of Elon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

At First…
Both teams were streaky in the early going, as a 6-0 run from Elon opening things up before Drexel responded with a 12-0 run of its own to take a 12-6 lead with just under 14 minutes remaining in the first frame. Elon then put seven more unanswered up on the board to jump ahead 13-12 with 12:19 until the break.

Turning Point…
With its lead at only one point, Elon spun off a 17-4 run over the next 5:51 to take a commanding 30-16 lead over Drexel with 5:03 left to play in the half before cold streaks from both teams brought the game into the break at 32-18. Elon’s run was highlighted by five three pointers during the stretch, three of which game from sophomore guard Dainan Swoope.

Out of the half, both teams picked it up offensively but the run put Drexel too far behind and the Dragons were never able to recover and Elon would leave the DAC victorious.

Standout Stars…
A lone bright spot for Drexel in this one was the play of senior forward Mohamed Bah. The 6-foot-9 Bah amassed a new career-high of 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting while also reeling in 12 rebounds, another career-best. Bah’s previous career scoring high of 11 was set back on February 26, 2015 in a 58-44 loss to Delaware. Helping Bah carry the offensive load for Drexel was a 16-point, seven-rebound, six-assist performance from freshman guard Kurk Lee.

Swoope continued to shine for Elon as the game went on as the 6-foot guard stuffed the stat sheet on Saturday afternoon to a tune of 32 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Aiding Swoope’s effort was the showing from fellow sophomore Tyler Seibring, who added in another 14 points and five rebounds.

Noteworthy Numbers…
26.7: Drexel shot an abysmal 8-of-30 (.267) from the field in the first half on Saturday afternoon, which put the Dragons in a hole too deep to dig themselves out of. Highlighting the first half struggle was Drexel’s 2-of-17 (.118) clip from beyond the arc.

9: Contributing to the Dragon’s offensive woes were the mere nine assists that Drexel dished out on Saturday, tying their second worst performance of the season.

56: The 56 points scored by Drexel on Saturday afternoon were the lowest total for the Dragons this season. This performance falls nine points short of the previous season low of 65 scored back in the first game of the season against Monmouth on November 11th and again against Towson on February 11th.
