Davidson used a quick start to jump ahead on St. Joe’s and defeat the Hawks by a score of 75-60 at Hagan Arena on Tuesday night.

At First…

Davidson took the lead early on, as Peyton Aldridge and Jon Axel Gudmundsson dominated the game on offense for the Wildcats. With 9:40 left in the first half, Davidson began to run away from the Hawks with an 17-6 run. Their biggest lead of 17 came with 4:44 remaining in the first half. After that, St. Joe’s went on an 11-4 run of their own and managed to cut the lead to 41-31 at the half.

Turning Point…

Davidson held onto a sizable lead as the second period got underway. St. Joe’s kept it from getting too out of hand, but never cut the lead to less than 10 until about nine minutes to go, after a Lamarr Kimble and-one. Freshman Charlie Brown made two free throws a minute later to cut the lead to eight, but the Hawks never got any closer. Aldridge scored the next six points down the stretch for the Wildcats as Davidson held on to win by a score of 75-60.

Standout Stars…

Peyton Aldridge continued his impressive junior season for Davidson, scoring 31 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field. The 6-foot-8 forward scored 20 of the Wildcats’ 41 first half points.

St. Joe’s tri-captain Lamarr Kimble added 18 points for the Hawks, but it wasn’t enough. The 6-foot sophomore shot 7-for-16 from the field and added four assists

Noteworthy Numbers…

33.9- Saint Joseph’s field-goal percentage. The Hawks came into the game shooting 42.4 percent from the field, and struggled to make baskets from the floor tonight as well. Free throw shooting was also an issue for Phil Martelli’s team, as they shot 60 percent from the charity stripe.

75- Davidson scored exactly 75 points tonight. The Wildcats are now 8-3 in games where they score 75 or more points.
