La Salle’s Atlantic 10 winning streak reached four straight games, as the Explorers welcomed George Washington to Philadelphia with a 79-69 win over the Colonials on Sunday afternoon.

At First...

La Salle controlled everything in the first half, with the Explorers never trailing before the intermission. Two early three pointers from Jordan Price and B.J. Johnson put La Salle up 6-0 and the Explorers would continue to keep George Washington at length for the remainder of the half, never seeing their lead fall below and La Salle took a 40-30 advantage into the break. Senior Jordan Price was a force in the first half for La Salle as the guard came into the half with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the early going.

Turning Point…

Following a Pookie Powell three pointer from way beyond the arc, Price grabbed a rebound at the other end and went coast-to-coast for an and-one layup in transition to give La Salle their largest lead of the game, 46-35, with just under 11 minutes to play. The quick spurt was a part of a 21-5 run for the Explorers that would put George Washington away for good.

Standout Stars…

Price, La Salle’s redshirt senior and a 1,000-point scorer, rode that impressive first-half performance to finish with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists. It’s his seventh 20-point game of the season, and first since scoring 26 in a 3OT win at Mercer on Dec. 22, a span of five games. Aiding Price was fellow redshirt senior Cleon Roberts, who finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including going 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.

For George Washington, Yuta Watanabe did it all for the Colonials as the 6-foot-9 forward cashed in for 13 points, reeled in eight rebounds and dished out four assists in a losing effort.

Noteworthy Numbers…

64.7%: La Salle was firing on all cylinders from beyond the arc as the Explorers connected on 11 of their 17 attempts from beyond the arc, a clip of 64.7%. This mark shatters their previous season high of 61.9% set back on November 27th against Drexel.

2: Through five games of the conference schedule, La Salle is tied for second place with a 4-1 record in A-10 play, a game behind Richmond (5-0). Also with one loss: Dayton and VCU.

20: La Salle dished out 20 assists in their win, falling just short of their season-high of 21, which they reached twice in wins over Drexel and Mercer.
