Girard College has hired Clyde Jones as its new boys' basketball coach, according to a source.

Jones had been the head coach at Penn Wood High School in Lansdowne, Pa., for the last 11 years, leaving Harriton for the Del-Val League school in 2005.

Last season, Jones guided the Patriots to a 12-11 record, including 5-5 in the Del-Val League. At Girard College, he'll have one of the area's most talented freshmen in reclassified 2020 forward Mikeal Jones as well as 6-6 sophomore Brandon Smith.

Jones led Penn Wood to back-to-back PIAA Class AAAA state championship games, winning it all in 2009 before falling just short to Plymouth-Whitemarsh in the repeat bid.

CoBL will have more on this story as it becomes available
