Quick Report: Rhode Island 79, La Salle 62

Rhode Island followed up their 11-point win over La Salle on January 16 with a 79-62 triumph over the Explorers at Tom Gola Arena on Saturday night.

At First…
After a 10-2 run to kick off the game by La Salle, and a 9-0 Rhode Island run to answer, a back-and-forth first half tat featured 10 lead changes and five ties ensued. Neither team could create much separation as they went into halftime tied at 29. Hassan Martin scored 10 first-half points for the Rams, while Cleon Roberts paced La Salle with eight.

Turning Point…
Rhode Island came out of the break on fire, going on a 15-2 run to take a 44-31 lead in the first 5 minutes of the second half, while shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in that span. This run carried throughout the second half as the Rams lead never went below 10 for the final 16:31 of the game.

Standout Stars…
Jarvis Garrett
and Jared Terrell both led the scoring charge for Rhode Island combining for 50 of their team’s 79 points, scoring 28 and 22, respectively.

Amar Stukes poured in 12 for LaSalle, with 9 of those coming on 3 three-pointers, a new career high in that category.

Noteworthy Number(s)...
0: There were no missed free throws in the first half, with both teams going a combined 12-12 from the stripe.

0: Rhode Island also got 0 points from its bench, with all 79 of their points coming from the starters.
