VCU extended the second longest winning streak in Division 1 basketball to 12 after an 88-70 win over LaSalle on Wednesday night at Tom Gola Arena.

Neither team could get much going early on as VCU led LaSalle 22-18 with 6:35 remaining in the first half until Melvin Johnson hit two three’s that sparked a 10-0 VCU run that put them up 32-18 with 3:50 remaining in the first half. The Atlantic 10’s second-leading scorer, Jordan Price, was held scoreless for the first 19:39 of the game until a three pointer with 21 seconds remaining in the first half.
Turning Point…
After a 7-2 La Salle run cut their lead to four, VCU went on a 22-5 run to close the half that helped them take a 44-28 lead into halftime, which was highlighted by 14 of Melvin Johnson’s 20 first-half points.
Standout Stars…
VCU senior guard Melvin Johnson (18.4 ppg, 6th in A10) added onto his 20 first-half points with 10 in the second half to finish with a game-high of 30.
La Salle guard Amar Stukes (LaSalle College High School) had a career high 17 points, passing his previous career high of 13.
