For the second consecutive season, Drexel lost to a Division II opponent, as host school Alaska-Anchorage took down the Dragons 71-65 in a consolation game of the Great Alaska Shootout.

At First…
The Seawolves (7-3) jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the Dragons (0-5), who trailed 11 early but righted the ship to take a 30-29 lead with under four minutes left in the first half, which end with UAA up 40-36.

Turning Point…
Drexel’s last lead of the game came at 56-55 with 8:49 remaining on a 3-pointer by Sammy Mojica, his final points of the game. Not surprisingly, it was two Sekou Wiggs 3-pointers that helped make up a 10-2 run that gave UAA the cushion it needed to ride out the win.

Standout Stars…
Wiggs was on from the outset, scoring those first 10 points all by himself; the 6-3 junior guard, a transfer from Idaho, finished with 33 points on 11-of-27 shooting, including 7-of-17 from the 3-point arc. Forward Corey Hammell added 14 for the Seawolves, getting 12 of his points at the foul line, to go along with a dozen rebounds.

Drexel was led by 20 points off the bench by Sammy Mojica, who’s got 36 points over the last two games; the 6-2 sophomore was 7-of-15 overall and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Senior wing Tavon Allen added 16 points on 15 shots (six made), while Rashann London had 11 on as many shots (five made).

Noteworthy Numbers…
Foul shooting cost Drexel yet again, as the Dragons went 11-of-22 (50.0 percent) from the line, while Alaska-Anchorage was 22-of-30 (73.3 percent) to take home the win despite shooting only 30.2 percent (19-of-63) from the floor.

Drexel shot better from the 3-point arc (6-of-15, 40.0 percent) than they did overall (24-of-62, 38.7 percent), thanks to a combined 4-of-14 performance from the team’s forwards. The Dragons did win the rebounding battle, 49-38, with Rodney Williams grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the team.=
