Without junior guard Cazmon Hayes (foot) and junior forward Maurice Jeffers (shoulder), Delaware entered its road game against Iona a little shorthanded.

Despite shooting close to 50 percent from the floor, the Blue Hens allowed the Gaels to shoot 16-of-33 from beyond the arc as Delaware fell to Iona, 92-77, on Friday night in New Rochelle, N.Y.

At first …
Delaware jumped out to a 16-14 lead in the first seven minutes courtesy of a balanced attack from sophomore guards Kory Holden and Chivarsky Corbett as well as senior forward Marvin King-Davis. The Gaels, however, finished the first half on a 22-11 run, as Delaware native and senior guard A.J. English splashed three consecutive 3-pointers to pace Iona to a 47-35 halftime lead. Corbett and Junior guard Devonne Pinkard led the Hens in first-half scoring with 10 points each.

Turning point …
The Hens were able to make it a 10-point game with 15 minutes to play in the second half, however Iona went on a 14-4 run during the next three minutes to put the game out of reach, The Gaels were able to ride their double-digit lead to the final buzzer.

Shining stars …
For Iona, English led all scorers with a game-high 25 points and 10 assists despite shooting just 3-for-9 from 3-point range. The senior guard converted all ten of his free throws as the Gaels just missed five shots from the charity stripe. All five Gaels starters finished in double-figure scoring, as sophomore guard Schadrac Casimir added 16 points in the win.

King-Davis scored a team-high 16 points and collected five rebounds for Delaware, which was trying to build on a season-opening win at in-state rival Delaware State. Corbett and Holden each added 15 points in the losing effort, as sophomore guard Anthony Mosley and junior forward Barnett Harris were the only Blue Hens off the bench.

Noteworthy numbers …
There were almost 50 fouls between the two teams, as Iona and Delaware shot a combined 38-47 from the free throw line .. 34 of Iona’s 59 shots came from 3-point range, as the Gaels converted on 16 of them while the Hens were just 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.
