Every day during the season on which there are games featuring the 10 Division I teams that CoBL features, we’ll have a Tipping Off running bright and early, letting you know everything you need to know about the matchups.

As always, we’ll start with a wrap of the previous day’s action, followed by a look at the complete slate; as always, thanks to KenPom’s awesome site for his predictions--though keep in mind this early in the season, his predictions aren’t as reliable:

Lafayette Leopards (0-1) vs. Saint Peter’s Peacocks (1-0)
Where: Kirby Sports Center, Easton, Pa.
When: 2 p.m.
Watch it: N/A
KenPom Prediction: Lafayette, 72-68 (67%)

The Skinny: Entering the season, the top priority on scouting Saint Peter’s was junior forward Quadir Welton, a Philadelphia native who averaged 7.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg a year ago. But based on the Peacocks’ 77-65 win over Brown on Friday night, the Leopards are going to have to pay a good deal of attention to Antwon Portley. The 6-4 freshman guard dropped 30 points on Brown, shooting 10-for-21 from the floor (3-11 on 3-pointers), while fellow guards Travis Wyche (14) and Chazz Patterson (12) joined him in double figures. Lafayette had a tough opener down at George Washington, but showed some second-half resilience in an 85-76 loss. Junior point guard Nick Lindner led the way with 27 points, three shy of his career high; he’s going to be putting up big numbers all season long as the Leopards’ best player.

Penn Quakers (1-0) vs. Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (0-1)
Where: The Palestra, Philadelphia, Pa.
When: 4 p.m.
Watch it: Ivy League Digital Network
KenPom Prediction: Penn, 75-62 (90%)

The Skinny: The Steve Donahue era got off to a tremendous start on Friday night as the Quakers jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead against Robert Morris. That lead was just one point when the buzzer sounded in the second half, but it was still a win in the debut of the new coach. Sam Jones had 21 points in the win and Matt Howard had 16. CCSU enters the game off a tough double-overtime loss to Hartford on Friday and not much time to rest in between.

St. Joseph’s Hawks (1-0) vs. Niagara Purple Eagles (0-1)
Where: Hagan Arena, Philadelphia, Pa.
When: 6 p.m.
Watch it: N/A
KenPom Prediction: Saint Joseph’s, 79-63 (94%)

The Skinny: St. Joe’s scored a surprising 82 points in Friday night’s win against Drexel. Sure, the Hawks gave up 81, but there was a lot of offense and four players scored in double figures, including DeAndre Bembry, who had a game-best 23 points. Sunday’s contest gives Phil Martelli’s team another chance to play within the new rules (52 total fouls were called in the Drexel game) and gives the coach another idea of just how is rotations are going to look later in the year. Niagara is coming off a 67-50 loss to Old Dominion, and the Purple Eagles shot just 32.7 percent from the field and 11.8 percent (2-for-17) from beyond the 3-point arc.
