Back in May, former Fairleigh Dickinson guard Matt MacDonald announced his plans to transfer to Penn.

Today, it became official as, via press release, new Penn coach Steve Donahue announced the addition of MacDonald to the Quakers roster. MacDonald will have to sit out the entire 2015-16 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining after that.

He will join a junior class in 2016 that is full of young talent, featuring players such as Antonio Woods, Darnell Foreman and Mike Auger.

“Matt is a great addition to the Quaker basketball family,” Donahue said via the press release. “He is the type of player, on and off the court, who we feel can help us compete for an Ivy League Championship. Matt has started the last two years at Fairleigh Dickinson, and was a captain his sophomore season. He will be a terrific leader for our young players.”

MacDonald started 59 out of 60 games in his two seasons with FDU, most notably being one of three players to start all 31 games during the 2013-14 season, his freshman campaign.

He is a product of Canisius H.S. (NY) and is from a basketball family. Two of his uncles played college basketball, one for the University of New Hampshire, the other for Navy.

MacDonald averaged 9.0 ppg along with 4.0 rpg and 1.1 apg while shooting 42.1 percent from the field. This was good enough to place him second on the team in rebounding and fourth in scoring. He also finished second on the team in minutes per game, averaging 29.5 this past season.
