Rising junior guard Geno Thorpe will transfer out of Penn State, the school announced late Thursday.

A 6-foot-2 guard out of Shaler (Pa.), Thorpe averaged 6.0 ppg and 2.1 rpg in his two seasons as a Nittany Lion. As a sophomore, he averaged 8.7 ppg and 2.6 rpg as Penn State went 18-16, including a 4-14 record in the Big Ten.

"We thank Geno for his two years at Penn State and wish him well," PSU head coach Pat Chambers said in a release.

Thorpe's departure means that the Nittany Lions are losing two of their four main guard contributors from a year ago, along with the graduation of D.J. Newbill. It almost means that freshman guard Josh Reaves is going to be heavily counted on right away, and could even start if former JUCO guard Devin Foster, a rising senior, doesn't earn the spot in the preseason. Another backcourt option is Isaiah Washington, who redshirted this past season and has four years left to play.

Thorpe has two years of eligibility remaining.
