Abington senior Matt Penecale has finalized his college plans. The 6-foot-3 senior guard committed to D-II West Chester University, where he'll be bringing his talents to the PSAC school this fall.

“They play in a really competitive league, I played pick-up with the guys when I visited and I just really liked playing with them,” he told CoBL by text. “The coaches seem great…feels like the perfect fit.”

The Galloping Ghosts were one of the more successful teams in District 1 over the last two years, with Penecale playing a large role in leading them into the 2014 PIAA class AAAA semifinals and then to a District 1 AAAA championship this season. A combo guard, he often played facilitator alongside classmate Amir Hinton, but often did a little bit of everything for head coach Charles Grasty

Over the last two years, Abington was a combined 52-10, winning the inaugural Suburban One League tournament title this season with its third of what would become four wins over arch-rival Pennsbury.

Penecale is West Chester’s fourth verbal commitment for the 2015 class, joining Susquehanna Township (Pa.) shooting guard Dejour Williams, Episcopal Academy (Pa.) point guard Mike Jolaoso and Kennett (Pa.) wing forward Jackson Hyland.
