The area’s private schools might be small, but boy are they mighty.

The amount of talent stacked into programs in the Friends’ Schools League, Inter-Academic League and several other independent and boarding schools in the five-county CoBL coverage region is hard to believe, and it just seems to be getting better every year. 

Without further ado, the boys PIAA All-CoBL selections for the 2023-24 season:

Player of the Year: Ahmad Nowell, Sr., Imhotep Charter
The 6-foot-1 guard committed to UConn averaged 21.3 ppg, 3.7 apg, 5.2 rpg and 2.0 spg on the way to Public League MVP honors. He helped the Panthers to a 29-3 mark, including Public League, District 12 and PIAA titles. He scored 1,805 points in his career, including a career-high 46 in a win over String Theory.

First Team
Jalil Bethea, Sr., Archbishop Wood
Bethea was named Catholic League MVP for the second year in a row, sharing the honors with Thomas Sorber. He averaged 22.7 ppg, 3.4 apg, 7.0 rpg and 1.5 spg, while shooting 48%from the floor and 35.5% from deep. He helped the Vikings to an 11-2 mark in the PCL (tied for first) before a trip to the PIAA Class 6A semifinals. The 6-foot-4 guard is a Miami (Fla.) commit who broke the school record 1,693 career points.

Shareef Jackson, Jr., Roman Catholic
Jackson was the centerpiece for the Cahillites’ second straight Philadelphia Catholic League championship. After earning third team honors as a sophomore, the 6-foot-7 forward was a first team All-Catholic League selection as a junior. He averaged 17.2 ppg on 58.2% shooting to go along with 10.1 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.6 spg and 1.4 bpg. 

Larenzo Jerkins, Sr., Neumann-Goretti
The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 15.9 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 2.0 spg and 1.5 bpg in his first year in the PCL after being forced to sit out his junior campaign. Jarkins, a first team All-PCL selection, was the PCL leader in offensive rebounds per game and steals per game during league play. The West Chester commit helped N-G to a 24-4 mark as long as PCL semifinal appearance, District 12-4A title and PIAA 4A quarterfinal finish.

Nyle Ralph-Beyer, Sr., West Chester Henderson
Ralph-Beyer, a 6-foot-4 guard and Sacred Heart commit, averaged 22.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 1.8 apg for the Warriors who finished as the Chest-Mont runner-up before reaching the District 1-6A semifinals and PIAA second round. He shot 50% from the floor and 43% from deep, knocking down 110 threes during one of the best seasons in the program’s recent history.

Thomas Sorber, Sr., Archbishop Ryan
The other Catholic League co-MVP averaged 18.9 ppg on 62.2% shooting from the field and added 10.9 rpg, 4.6 bpg 2.5 apg and 1.5 spg. Sorber, a 6-foot-9 forward headed to Georgetown, helped the Raiders to a runner-up finish in the PCL and the PIAA Class 5A semifinals. He set the school record for points in a game (41) and in a career (1,484) this season.

Second Team
Kyree Latimer, Sr., Constitution
Latimer, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 20.6 ppg, 3.1 apg, 6.3 rpg and 1.0 spg for the Generals, scoring 20-or-more points 18 times, including a 40-point outing against Dobbins Tech. The two-time first team All-Public League selection helped Constitution to a 25-7 mark, a PPL runner-up finish and the PIAA Class 2A semifinals.

Zane Conlon, Jr., Devon Prep
The do-it-all 6-foot-5 wing/forward averaged 17.4 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.9 apg and 1.5 spg to earn All-PCL second team honors, shooting 53.7% from the floor and 41.4% from deep. Conlon helped Devon Prep to its first District 12-3A championship and the PIAA Class 3A title.

Kevair Kennedy, Jr., Father Judge
Kennedy, a 6-foot-2 guard, was a first team All-PCL selection, averaging 17.3 ppg, 6.0 apg, 6.5 rpg and 2.0 spg, leading the PCL in assists and earning first team All-PCL honors. Kennedy was the top player on Judge’s first PCL semifinal team in 25 years.

Jaron McKie, Jr., St. Joe’s Prep
McKie averaged 18.1 ppg, 2.3 apg, 6.0 rpg and 1.7 spg for the Hawks, shooting 48.3& from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc. He helped the Hawks to a 17-6 finish (10-3 PCL) and earned first team All-PCL honors for the second straight year.

Josh Reed, Sr., Archbishop Wood
The Drexel commit averaged 18.9 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.4 apg and 1.5 spg, shooting 60.7% from floor. Reed, a 6-foot-3 guard, had a breakout senior campaign, earning first team All-PCL honors for a team that finished tied with the best mark during the PCL regular season.

Darren Williams, Sr., Archbishop Ryan
Williams, a 6-foot-3 guard headed to Florida Gulf Coast, was the second half of Ryan’s 1-2 punch, averaging 16.8 ppg, 2.4 apg, 3.8 rpg and 1.8 spg. He hit the game-winner in the PCL quarterfinals that sent the Raiders to the Palestra.

Third Team
James “JT” Anderson, Sr., Unionville
Anderson averaged 13 ppg, 7.0 apg, 5.0 rpg, posting a triple double against Avon Grove among his season highlights. The back-to-back first team All-Ches Mont League American Division selection helped the Longhorns to a division title (10-0) and the first District 1-5A championship since 1981 and the PIAA quarterfinals.

EJ Campbell, Sr., Spring-Ford
A two-time first team All-Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division selection, Campbell averaged 14.2 ppg, 5.4 apg and 4.0 rpg as the Rams’ point guard, while shooting 51.7% from the floor. He helped the Rams to a 23-8 mark, PAC runner-up finish and the PIAA 6A quarterfinals.

Matt Gardler, Jr., Marple Newtown
A three-year varsity starter, Gardler followed by a second team All-Central League selection with a Central League MVP campaign. He averaged 21.3 ppg, 4.2 apg and 4.4 rpg, while shooting 47% from the field and 43% from 3-point range to become the first Tigers players to win the award.

Dior Kennedy, Sr., Coatesville
Kennedy averaged 17 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.0 apg and 3.0 spg to earn first team All-Ches-Mont League honors. He helped the Raiders to the program’s first league title since 2017. The 6-foot-3 guard helped Coatesville make a run to the District 1 and PIAA Class 6A quarters.

Ryan Mulroy, Jr., Upper Dublin
The 6-foot-3 guard helped the Cardinals to a historic 21-5 season, winning the SOL Liberty Division title outright for the first time in 22 years, winning the first SOL tournament title in program history and reaching the District 1-5A championship game for the first time since 1985. He averaged 15.4 ppg, 2.6 apg, 5.2 rpg and 1.2 spg to earn first team All-SOL Liberty honors.

Julian Sadler, Sr., Perkiomen Valley
The 6-foot-1 guard was a first team All-Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division first team selection for the second year in a row. Sadler averaged 22 ppg, 2.0 apg and 3.0 rpg, while shooting 57% from the floor. He finished his career with 1,450 points, which ranked third all-time in PV history.

Fourth Team
Jacob Cummiskey, Sr., Central Bucks East
The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 16 ppg, 3.0 apg and 4.0 rpg, while shooting 44% from the floor and knocking down 43 3-point shots. The four time All-SOL Patriot Division selection, earned his third straight first team honors as he helped his team to a fourth straight division title and state playoff appearance. He finished second in program history with 1,360 career points.

Jordan Ellerbee, Jr., St. Joe’s Prep
Ellerbee, a 6-foot-3 guard, had a breakout junior campaign, averaging 14.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 4.5 apg, and 1.8 spg for the Hawks (17-6), earning first team All-PCL honors after not appearing on any of the All-PCL lists last year.

Connor Fleet, Sr., West Chester Henderson
Fleet averaged 16.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 6.5 apg and shot 51% from the field and 42% from behind the arc for the Warriors, earning first team All-Ches-Mont National honors for the second year in a row. He teamed with Ralph-Beyer to lead Henderson to its best season in years, reaching the Ches-Mont title game, District 1-6A semis and PIAA second round.

Donovan Fromhartz, Jr. Downingtown West
Fromhartz helped the Whippets to another state playoff appearance after stepping into the team’s go-to role this season. The 6-foot-6 wing earned his second straight first team All-Ches-Mont National selection as he averaged 19.6 ppg,3.0 apg and 6.0 rpg, knocking down threes.

Adam Herrenkohl, Sr., Lower Merion
In his first year in the Aces’ rotation, Herrenkohl averaged 13.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 4.6 apg, while shooting 53.8% from the field and 47.6% from three (50). The second team All-Central League selection helped Lower Merion to a 28-2 season that included and undefeated run in the Central League (16-0), a league title and District 1-6A championship.

Max Lebisky, Sr., Phoenixville
Lebisky, a 6-foot-5 point forward, was a first team All-PAC Frontier selection for the second straight year as he averaged 17.0 ppg, 5.5 apg and 10.0 rpg. The Scranton recruit helped the Phantoms to the program’s first PAC championship since 2007 and reached the District 1-5A semifinals and PIAA playoffs.

Fifth Team
Naeem Colston, Sr., Samuel Fels
Colston put up huge numbers this season, averaging 28.2 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 4 apg, 3.9 spg, and 1.8 bpg this season in leading Samuel Fels to the second round of the Public League playoffs. Named First Team All-Public League and Public League ‘C’ Division MVP.

Aasim “Flash” Burton, Sr., Cardinal O’Hara
Burton, a Rider commit, averaged 21.6 ppg, 3.6 apg, 5.2 rpg and 1.9 spg, while shooting 40.7% from the floor and 31.2% from 3-point range. He earned second team All-PCL honors.

Mani Sajid, Soph., Plymouth Whitemarsh
Sajid was a breakout star this season, averaging 19.8 ppg, 1.3 apg, 3.9 rpg and 2.3 spg, while shooting 48% from the floor and knocking down 76 threes. The first team All-SOL Liberty selection had a 40-point game against Quakertown.He helped the Colonials qualify for the SOL, District 1 and PIAA tournaments. 

Jake Sniras, Jr., Garnet Valley
Sniras followed up a second team All-Central League honor selection with first team honors this season, averaging 17.8 ppg, 3.1 apg and 5.3 rpg while shooting 42% from the floor. He helped the 14th-seed Jaguars make a run to the District 1-6A championship game for the first time since 1997.

Dominic Toy, Sr., Chester
The 6-foot-5 forward headed to play football at UConn this season to help the Clippers return to prominence, winning the Del-Val League title and reaching the District 1-6A semis during a 21-5 campaign. Toy averaged 10.6 ppg, 2.6 apg, 8.4 rpg, 2.4 bpg and 2.2 spg.

Ian Williams, Soph., Archbishop Carroll
The Patriots’ point guard averaged 13.1 ppg, 6.3 apg, 4.6 rpg, and 2.2 spg, shooting 50.7% from the floor and leading the PCL in assists. The second team All-PCL selection helped the Patriots make a run to the PIAA Class 4A championship game. 

Sixth Team
Sair Alsbrooks, Sr., Math, Civics and Sciences Charter
Alsbrook  averaged 13.2 ppg, 6.6 pg, 1.7 bpg and 1.1 spg to earn first team All-Public League honors. He helped the Mighty Elephants to an 8-2 mark in the PPL (second place) and the program’s first PPL title game appearance since 2020.

Zachary Campbell, Sr., Dobbins Tech
The First Team All-Public League selection capped a great Dobbins career by averaging 18.7 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 2.5 spg as a senior, drawing collegiate attention from all over the region. The 6-3 sharpshooting guard finished his career with 1,248 points, including a state playoff appearance as a junior.

Abdurahman Coulibaly, Sr., West Philadelphia
The athletic wing led West Catholic into the PIAA Class 5A tournament as a senior, earning First Team All-Pub efforts on the backs of a season where he averaged 18.9 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 3.0 apg, shooting better than 58% from the floor. He’s doing a prep year at Avon Old Farms (Conn.) in the high-level NEPSAC.

Christian Matos, Soph., Methacton
Matos cemented his spot on this list with a breakout postseason, including a 28-point outing against Archbishop Wood in the PIAA playoffs, hitting five 3-pointers. For the season, the sharpshooting left averaged 17.4 ppg and 3.4 rpg, hitting 52% from the field along with 67 triples. 

Colin Treude, Sr., Springfield (Delco)
A York College commit, Treude averaged 11.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg and 2.4 apg as the centerpiece of the Cougars’ patient, balanced attack. Was a First Team All-Central League selection, then played a major role as they qualified for the PIAA Class 6A tournament spot and won a state playoff game for the first time in 17 years.

Adrien Varella, Jr., Holy Ghost Prep
An athletic 6-2 wing guard, Varella averaged 20.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 1.8 apg, hitting 54% of his shots and 42% of his 3-pointers (38 3s) from the field. Scored 20 or more points in 13 out of 23 games this season as Holy Ghost, which doesn’t play in a league, made it to the District 1 5A playoffs.
