City of Basketball Love

The Northeast Basketball League is back. 

Now about a decade old, the Mayfair-based boys’ spring summer league has returned for 2024. This year’s league, officially known as the Jay Ems Insurance/Marinucci’s Deli NEBL, features 16 teams, including six members of the Philadelphia Catholic League, a few schools from the Philadelphia Public League, several District 1 members and one from over the Delaware River.

Half of the participants will play on Tuesdays, and half on Thursdays. Over the course of eight weeks, each team will play the other teams in its division at least once. There will also be a league playoffs, which will happen after the conclusion of the “regular season” on June 20.

Tuesdays: Archbishop Wood, Bonner-Prendergast, Cherry Hill East (N.J.), Council Rock South, Holy Ghost Prep, Lincoln, St. Joseph’s Prep, Upper Dublin

Thursdays: Archbishop Ryan, Bensalem, Central Bucks East, Dobbins Tech, Father Judge, Upper Moreland, West Catholic, West Philadelphia

The NEBL will be a good chance to see a few of the area's top programs as they start to adjust to their new rosters.

For Archbishop Wood, that means life without Jalil Bethea (Miami) and Josh Reed (Drexel) in the starting lineup for the first time in three years, but the Vikings aren't the only ones taking hits to graduation. Archbishop Ryan will start to explore the post-Thomas Sorber (Georgetown) and Darren Williams (FGCU) era; Dobbins graduates Zach Campbell and Saleem Hudson; Bonner loses Deuce Ketner, Kyree Womack, Kevin Rucker and more.

CoBL will be checking in on the NEBL over the course of its season. The complete schedule:
