City of Basketball Love

The 2024 summer of grassroots hoops got underway this weekend with events across the country, boys and girls’ teams alike getting ready for the upcoming live recruiting periods and the weeks and months that will follow.

CoBL had writers at the Ohio Basketball Philly Takedown this weekend, focusing on the 16U and 17U games at the Westtown School. Here’s who stood out to the CoBL staff in games we watched on Saturday:

Haylie Adamski (2025 | Philly Rise EYBL 17U)
The 6-foot Garnet Valley guard showed off her microwave ability during a stretch of the Rise’s win over the Shoreshots. She finished with 12 points and six assists in the game. Adamski knocked down a pair of threes, her range playing well off her teammates. She kept the ball moving, making “one more” passes on the perimeter, good reads in transition and a few other good looks on the way to her big assist total.

Quinn Boettinger (2025 | Comets GUAA 17U)
Boettinger faced a tough task going up against one of the best posts in the country in Gandy Malou-Mamel but fared well against the UConn commit, pacing a balanced Comets squad with 10 points in a win over the ShoreShots. Boettinger, who matched up 1-on-1 with Malou-Mamel most of the game, got rejected a couple times early but recovered nicely to get the best of the matchup quite a few times, with some nice left-handed finishes and tough rebounding amongst the trees.

Jahzara Green (2026 | Philly Rise EYBL 16U)
A strong-bodied wing forward, Green had a productive outing in the Rise’s win over the NJ ShoreShots on Saturday afternoon, piling up 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds despite missing a good chunk of the first half after taking a hard fall. But playing physical is nothing new for Green, who grabbed four offensive rebounds and doesn’t mind at all battling amongst the paint, though she also stepped out to knock down a 3-pointer and hit all three of her foul shots. 

Erica Gribble (2026 | Comets GUAA 17U)
Gribble only scored six points in the Comets’ win over the ShoreShots on Saturday morning, knocking down two of her three 3-point attempts — she only took four shots — but it was everything else she did that got her on this list. The point guard, playing up a year with the Comets for the second summer in a row despite coming all the way from Greensburg Central Catholic in Western PA, is a smooth operator on the ball, dishing out four assists  while coming up with five steals; she was locked in on her defensive assignments all game long, doing a great job of staying down on shooters and cutting off one driver after another.

Abigail Grillo (2025 | Comets Select 17U)
Grillo used a lot of her offensive touches on Saturday to attack the basket and got a lot of those decisions. The rangy 5-foot-10 wing, who plays at Padua Academy in Delaware, was able to draw contact at a consistent rate and earned several trips to the foul line. Grillo also mixed in a couple threes in a 17-point outing against the WeR1 Lady Sharks. Outside her scoring, Grillo also hit the boards on both ends and doled out a few assists. 

Madison Handrahan (2025 | NY Extreme Red 17U)
Handrahan is a shifty 5-foot-8 point guard who plays at Glastonbury High School (Conn.). She finished with 15 points and four assists in a loss to BBA. Handrahan has a fundamental shooting stroke she used to can in three triples. She’s also strong with the ball, showing the ability to break down BBA’s quick defenders at times. The vision stood out as Handrahan read the defense well, tossing passes up ahead in transition and dicing her opponent with bounce passes in the halfcourt.

Laila Jones (2026 | K-Low Elite-Edwards 17U)
Jones is a smooth operator, someone in control of the game when she steps on the floor. She piled up 18 points and seven assists in a victory over NY Extreme Black. The 5-foot-7 point guard has a pretty stroke, knocking down three triples both pulling up and off the catch and shoot. She flows to her spots on the court, able to ditch her defender and get into the lane where she’s equally dangerous as a distributor or finisher. She’s crafty around the rim.

Aidan Langley (2025 | BBA GUAA 17U)
The Westtown 6-foot-1 forward was a dominant force inside, collecting 18 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks in a win over NY Extreme. She did a lot of her work on the offensive glass, cleaning up her team’s misses. Langley ran the floor on both ends, sprinting back on defense for a block and getting rewarded with a transition basket or two for running the fastbreak. She’s really good at sealing her defender and making a strong turn over her shoulder to go up for a bucket and also displayed some finesse with euro through traffic.

Katie Liggio (2026 | NJ ShoreShots HGSL 16U)
Liggio led ShoreShots with an 18-point outing in a loss to Philly Rise on Saturday afternoon, knocking down four 3-pointers on 8 attempts. The 5-9 guard showed off terrific range and a quick release, with a high-arcing shot that was on target every time; she also showed good natural touch when being creative within 15 feet, hitting a couple shots off offensive rebounds (of which she had three, as part of seven rebounds). 

Gandy Malou-Mamel (2025 | NJ ShoreShots HGSL 17U)
The Rise threw the kitchen sink at Malou-Mamel, a 6-foot-6 forward committed to UConn, and she still found a way to pile up 18 points and nine rebounds in a loss. The Gil St. Bernard’s forward has great special awareness, anticipating where defenders will come from. That paired with her size and terrific hands make her a real threat in the pick & roll game. She uses her size well, often scoring through her defenders with some agility to go around them as well. A baseline drive and wraparound pass for an assist hinted at some playmaking ability too.

Ashlyn Moore (2025 | Keystone Karma 17U)
Between the gold-trimmed sneakers and the mixture of outlet and cross-court passes, Moore brought some flair to the court Saturday. The 5-foot-8 point guard, who plays for state heavyweight Scranton Prep, is working to show she can score too and did so with a 21-point effort in the Karma’s first win Saturday. In the afternoon block, Moore played more of her usual role, whipping all kinds of passes around the floor, notching four second half assists in a win over the NJ Pirates but also looking pretty fluid while draining a long-range three.

Addy Nyemchek (2026 | Philly Rise EYBL 16U)
Nyemchek was really impressive in the Rise’s win of the ShoreShots, especially in the second half, where she had 12 of her team-high 19 points; she also grabbed 10 rebounds, four steals, and a block and dished out two assists. The 6-0 wing can do it all: she knocked down a deep 3-pointer, had a couple strong off-hand takes to the rim in transition, and knocked down a floater from 10 feet; she’s also a great passer on the move with both hands and can post up and play around the bucket.

Jordyn Palmer (2027 | Philly Rise EYBL 17U)
Palmer, a 6-foot-1 forward from Westtown, is becoming virtually impossible to stop when she gets a head of steam heading toward the rim. She used a floater, a Eurostep and some old fashioned tough finishing through contact during a 16-point outing in a win over the Shoreshots. Palmer stepped outside and swooshed through her lone attempt from deep as well. She’s still only a high school freshman but her strength ripping down rebounds from players a few years her elder was eye-popping as well.

Olivia Selverian (2025 | Lady Runnin’ Rebels HGSL 17U)
Selverian was on fire in her Runnin’ Rebels debut, knocking down her first three 3-pointers and four overall as she went for 17 points in a big win over In The Zone on Saturday afternoon. Selverian also had an and-one layup where she was being held with both hands but still powered the ball up and through the rim; for the game, she was 6-of-8 from the floor (4-6 3PT) and added two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Maya Simmons (2026 | Philly Belles EYBL 16U)
The Belles had plenty of strong outings in a win over the Mid-Atlantic Magic, but Simmons’ performance was the most eye catching. The 5-foot-6 point guard from Cheltenham has a pretty pull-up that plays well off her dribble-drive ability. She knocked down a pair of threes and finished inside, including an and-one with her left. She’s a player who causes havoc on defense as well, tallying five steals in the win.

Amaya Stewart (2025 | K-Low Elite Edwards 17U)
NY Extreme Black had no answer for Stewart, a 6-foot-1 forward from Wyomissing, as he piled up 20 points and 13 rebounds in a dominant K-Low win. Stewart is a terrific athlete who can get up and down the floor and has some versatility to get low and defend on the perimeter. She took a rebound and went coast-to-coast to highlight her speed and handle. Stewart used her strength for multiple finishes through contact and traffic and ripped down rebounds throughout.

Jordin Tate (2025 | WeR1 Lady Sharks 17U)
Tate, at 6-foot-1, was quite a presence for the Lady Sharks on Saturday. The Caravel Academy (Del.) forward controlled the glass as her Delaware-based group took down the Comets Select in the morning and continued to grapple for boards against the Runnin’ Rebels in the afternoon. Tate had 11 rebounds in the Comets win, adding 11 points and a couple emphatic blocks.
