City of Basketball Love

The All City Classic hosted the Philly vs. New York High School Basketball Showcase on Friday night at Bonner Prendergast. Both Philly squads came out on top as Archbishop Carroll handled Brooklyn Collegiate, 65-36, before Bonner-Prendergast took down Thomas Jefferson, 64-57. Here are the ones who stood out during the event:

Darell Davis (2027 | Archbishop Carroll)

A Maryland native, Davis represented Philly well in his debut against Brooklyn Collegiate. His on-ball defense had the opposing guards in a bind. Even when they tried to set picks on him, Davis fought over to stay attached and nullify any potential advantage. Offensively, he popped two threes in the first quarter, but the Patriots needed more from him in the fourth once two starters went out with cramps. So the 5-10 guard put his cape on, then went off for 10 points (6/6 FT) and 3 assists in the quarter to put the game out of reach. He finished with 16 points,  rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. 

Luca Foster (2026 | Archbishop Carroll)
He may not be the most physically developed, but Foster gladly did the trench work for Carroll. At 6-5, the sophomore wing came away 13 boards while battling in the low post defensively. Even when he couldn’t pull it down with two hands, he still managed to extend offensive possessions by tipping the ball out to someone else. His teammates responded in kind by finding him around the basket and kicking it out to him on the perimeter. Foster put up 13 points and a block to go along with the rebounds.

Deuce Ketner (2024 | Bonner-Prendie)
Ketner scored the game’s first bucket and shook the gym when he attacked baseline and dropped the hammer on a thunderous dunk. Normally a highly-productive rebounder, he left his mark on the season-opener in a different way. As Jefferson went off in the third quarter, Ketner slowed the bleeding with his team defense. The uncommitted wing-forward racked up three steals and a block by poking the ball away on entry passes and simply being in the right place and the right time. In total, he had 15 points and 4 boards.

Kevin Rucker Jr. (2024 | Bonner-Prendie)
Also an unsigned senior, Rucker Jr. started the game versus Jefferson exactly how he finished — at the free throw line. He was a foul-magnet. It felt like every time the 6-4 shooting guard slithered his way to the hoop, he drew contact and forced the refs to blow their whistles. He hit a stepback three in the first quarter that had the home crowd going wild and worked the defensive glass throughout. But the Friars needed him most on offense as they entered the fourth quarter down 44-38. Rucker Jr. led them back and closed the game with 10 of his 22 points in the period. He went 11-of-13 from the line to go along with 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

Reggie Selden Jr. (2024 | Bonner-Prendie)
Selden Jr. provided the defensive compliment to what Rucker Jr did offensively. He knocked down three treys off-the-catch on his way to 12 points total plus 6 rebounds and 1 steal. However, his biggest impact was late in the game when he took on Jefferson’s leading scorer. Neither going right or going left were options. Selden Jr. forced his man into difficult shots and bad decisions using his lateral quickness. Slowing him down just a bit was imperative to Bonner's comeback.

Connor Sprattley (2025 | Thomas Jefferson, N.Y.)

If the Orange Wave were going to win the game, it was going to be on the strength of Sprattley’s scoring ability. He personally responded to Bonner’s hot start with two deep threes and some free throws to end the quarter, 18-16. Then, coming out of halftime, after sitting with foul trouble, he danced his way into the heart of the Friar defense and finished with craft, giving his squad another 9 points. Sprattley handled business whichever way possible in the fourth — grifting calls, hitting another three, and squeaking into the lane for a layup. He put up a game-high 26 points plus 3 assists.

Ian Williams (2026 | Archbishop Carroll)
The sophomore point guard only needed three quarters of action to lead his team to the win. As a scorer, he gritted out some tough buckets inside, including a putback layup. And as a leader, he kept his team locked in and made plays on defense when Brooklyn Collegiate tried to go on a run in the second quarter. His 14 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals went a long way in that condensed amount of time.
