While Philly Live is going to draw a lot of attention this weekend, and rightfully so, it’s not the only live period event going on in the region featuring local talent. The Mid-Atlantic Independent School Showcase, which ran last weekend in northern New Jersey at Blair Academy, shifts southward to the Hun School of Princeton this weekend, with a smaller field of 28 schools set to take part over the course of three days.

Though it’s a more limited group than the 100-plus schools in Philly Live, the programs in action at Hun will be absolutely packed with talent, with some of the best private school squads from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, along with a few others, taking the court in what’s sure to be a high-level group of coaches.

Local schools participating this weekend include all six programs from the Inter-Academic League, plus most of the Friends’ Schools League as well as Phelps, Perkiomen and Hill, the area’s top three post-graduate/boarding school programs. A few programs in particular we’ll be keeping our eye on this weekend:

— Westtown School lost Dereck Lively II (Duke) and Quin Berger (St. Joe’s) to graduation, but Seth Berger always has his roster restocked with talent year after year. Sharpshooting wing Matt Mayock and speedy lead guard Seyphon Triplett are two 2023s back from last year, but they’ve got some new arrivals that are sure to draw even more eyes to the Moose. Matt Gilhool, a 6-foot-11 2024 who was previously at Elizabethtown (Pa.) High School, is a high-major forward in the making, and 2025 Cameron Wallace, previously at Great Valley, has a world of potential as well.

— Penn Charter’s 2023 class is finally in their final year together, after being a group to watch since their early days. Mark Butler, Trey Shinholster, Isaiah Grimes and Keith Gee will all be playing at the next level, and they bring a boatload of chemistry to the table. Shinholster’s younger brother, 2025 SG Kai Shinholster, is a lanky 6-3 (or more) and another one to watch with offers already from Hofstra and Robert Morris, while 2023 Colin Schumm, who’s also a football standout, will provide additional punch if he’s not busy with gridiron activities.

— The Hill School has an impressive frontcourt with 2023 Augie Gerhart (6-9) and 2025 Quadri Bashiru (6-9) surrounded by wings like 2023s Josh Cameron (6-7), Matthew Field (6-7) and Justin Molen (6-6), giving Seth Eilberg a lot of flexibility with what he can do up front. The table-setter is 6-2 2024 Trey O’Neil, a steady point guard with a terrific outside shot, though 2025 point guard Jacob Meachim (5-7) is strong with the ball in his hands as well. Molen, a post-grad from Salesianum (Del.), is an intriguing newcomer who can play the ‘1’ through the ‘4.’

— Speaking of strong frontcourts, Perkiomen School has its own group to watch up front, including Maryland offeree Thomas Haugh, a bouncy 6-9 2023 who’s stretched his face-up game out to the 3-point arc, plus post-grad 2023 Ryan Zan (6-7) and 2023 Priest Ryan (6-7), plus 6-5 2023 wing Bobby Rosenberger, 6-3 2024 guard DeMajh Salisbury and 6-4 2025 Gabe Tanner, all of whom should see plenty of time on the perimeter.
