The defending PAISAA state champion Haverford School hosted a non-league matchup on Tuesday afternoon, as the George School made the long trek from Bucks County to Lancaster Ave. Even though the host Fords were short a few of their stars, the team stepped up with seven different players scoring in a 54-45 win.

We'll have more in-depth coverage on both squads in the upcoming weeks, but below are some notes and thoughts on the game, as well as some recruiting info on one of the team's star players, with a photo gallery down below.

–– It was a bit of a wild start for the visitors, as Haverford jumped out to a 14-6 lead after one quarter thanks to turnovers and missed layups, and George School never really recovered ––  though it also never really got out of hand. The Cougars’ full-court pressure defense did affect a shorthanded Fords’ backcourt, and some late 3-point shooting put a scare into the hosts from the Inter-Ac. But the Friends’ League representatives couldn’t get over the hill, and dropped to 3-3 on the season, while Haverford improved to 5-2 overall.

–– The Haverford School was without two of its best players and prospects, junior guard Christian Clover (ankle) and sophomore guard Jameel Brown (wrist), though Rogers said he didn’t expect the two to be out much longer, and could have them back as soon as this weekend. The two Division I prospects will add a lot of scoring punch to the Fords’ backcourt when they do take the court.

With Clover and Brown sidelined the scoring onus was on junior guard and another Division I prospect, Tyler Seward. Seward responded with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting (1-2 3PT), going 6-of-10 from the line; the 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard also had seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Though Seward doesn’t have a D-I offer, the strong student said he’s been hearing from Ivy/Patriot types, naming Penn, Princeton, Lafayette and Columbia as schools that had been in touch.

–– George School’s best player and prospect, senior guard Jack Vreeswyk, paced the Cougars with 21 points. The 6-4 guard and son of former Temple standout Mike Vreeswyk –– an assistant on first-year head coach Ben Luber’s staff –– was 6-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-9 from the 3-point line, and connected on all five of his foul shots. Vreeswyk has a beautiful shot and is an above-average athlete, and though he needs to continue to get stronger and work on his handle, he’s putting himself in scholarship territory with a strong start to his senior year.

–– An intriguing prospect for the Haverford School is freshman Raijon Dispensa. A South Jersey native, Dispensa is a 6-6, 180-pound wing/forward with a frame that suggests he’s still got a good bit of growing to do. It might take Dispensa a little time to become a force on the varsity level; he’s fairly deep on the Fords’ bench, and didn’t score with two rebounds in solid reserve minutes against the George School, but he certainly looks like his best games are ahead of him. Dispensa will be playing with a new AAU program, Jersey Scholars, run by Dajuan Wagner, and they’ll play on the 15U Nike EYBL circuit.
