Scouting Report

Strengths: Versatile wing guard who can play the ‘2’, ‘3’ and ‘4’ with equal success. Very good perimeter shooter who knows how to fade to open spots and plays in a system that emphasizes ball movement and getting open shots. Is getting better at recognizing matchups and attacking forwards off the bounce. Can out-muscle many smaller guards, too, and can hit tough runners and finish through contact. Very good rebounder from the perimeter, not afraid to stick his nose into a scrum or dive on the floor. Solid athlete. Stays low defensively, sets a good base and uses his hands to get in passing lanes.

Weaknesses: Somewhat stuck between positions, as he’s a little undersized for a true ‘3’ but doesn’t quite have the handle or ability to create his own shot against good defending guards at higher levels. A little slow laterally and can get beaten off the dribble by quick guards, is susceptible to over-playing one side and getting beaten on the other.

Overall: A tough wing who plays the game hard, Fleming is a solid all-around prospect at the small college level. Would certainly be an impact player right away at the Division III level thanks to his developed body and basketball IQ, plus his ability to find space and hit shots, but certainly has a good chance to earn some Division II scholarships and be a solid four-year contributor at that level if he continues to improve his ability to create his own shot and defend multiple positions.
