Strengths: A good athlete with long arms, McPhearson definitely has a lot of upside, especially if he has another inch or two to go in his frame. A very good rebounder in and out of his area. Hustles tremendously on both ends of the court, and defends at a very high level. Strong shot blocker with good reach and timing, and mostly stays upright in the post to avoid fouling.
Weaknesses: Needs to develop either a post game or a face-up game, as he’s primarily a clean-up guy on the offensive end. Needs to continue to get his motor running at the highest level on a more consistent basis; can take more advantage of his ability to cover the court quickly and play above the rim.
Overall: McPhearson is one to watch this summer, as his role should greatly expand for Carroll during his junior season. He has Division I length and athleticism, but now he needs to start bringing the skills around to show what type of player he can be. Still a long way from being close to a polished product.
