Strengths: This cat-quick guard gets by defenders almost at will. Likes to drive with his left hand and gets to the paint; jump-shot is ok, good pull-up off the dribble, can finish in the lane which is impressive considering his height. Athletic. Can create for others but looks for his shot first. His constant attacking the basket opens up the outside for other Imhotep guards. He is the heartbeat of his team, and is only a rising junior.
Weaknesses: Needs to develop a floater because he tries to finish at the rim with the bigs and gets it blocked often. Has to be more of a distributor because at the next level they don’t need 5-10 scorers. Needs to add more strength and become more of a consistent shooter.
Overall: Russell has tremendous upside; although small, this guard was not afraid of the moment one bit in leading his team to the 2015 Public League title and he is the engine of that team as a sophomore. Can't deny the impact he has on the court even when playing against high-level programs in both high school and on the AAU circuit. Has proven himself to be a mid-major-plus to high-major level guard, and the offers are starting to pour in.
