Saint Joseph’s sophomore wing Charlie Brown, Jr, will miss a few weeks after fracturing his left wrist in practice last week, according to a university release.

The release added that Brown underwent surgery on Tues., Oct. 24 for the injury and “will begin rehab immediately.” However, his return date has not been determined.

In a season marred by injuries for the Hawks, Brown was one of just four players to appear in every game in 2016-17. Brown, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Philadelphia, averaged 12.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg to earn Atlantic-10 All-Rookie honors.

Expectations for Brown and St. Joe’s have increased heading into his sophomore season. He was selected to the preseason all-Atlantic 10 Third Team this year. The Hawks were picked to finish third in the A-10’s preseason poll.

Brown is one of two projected Hawks starters currently sidelined by injury. Senior guard Shavar Newkirk, who tore his ACL midway through last season, has not yet been cleared for action and his status is unclear for the beginning of the season.

The Hawks’ 2017-18 season begins on Sat., Nov. 11 in Toledo. They open up at home on Nov. 18 against Princeton at 7 PM.
