A tight game that saw Temple slightly ahead on the scoreboard throughout also saw the Owls give way to a fierce UConn comeback, as the Huskies pulled off a 64-63 win thanks to a last-second Jalen Adams layup.

At First…

Temple jumped out to a 12-7 lead just over five minutes into the game with the help up seven early points from Dan Dingle. The Owls kept their distance from the Connecticut until Rodney Purvis knocked down a layup and Vance Jackson drained a 3-pointer to give the Huskies a 24-23 lead with four minutes remaining in the half. Dingle hit a three on the next possession to retake the lead for Temple and the Owls finished out the half strong to take a 35-29 into the locker room. The largest lead of the first half was only six as both teams played very evenly.

Turning Point…

This game was about as close as it can possibly get. Temple was able to take the momentum they gained from the end of the first half into the second, as they pushed their lead to as many as 10 with 8:29 to play. This wouldn’t be the end of the Huskies, who fought and crawled their way back into the game and tied it at 60 after a huge three from Purvis. Temple’s freshman Quinton Rose followed that with a three of his own to push the lead back to three before sophomore Jalen Adams tried to throw down a monster jam but was fouled and made both the free throws. With UConn down a point, Adams found a lane and finished at the rim with only three seconds left to win this one for the Huskies.

Standout Stars…

Dingle led the Owls with 17 points in the game. Temple’s third leading scorer scored seven of the team’s first ten points scoring 12 total in the first half on 4-of-5 shooting. He rounded out the stat sheet finishing the game with six rebounds and six assists.

Damion Moore had the best game of his young collegiate career. The 6-foot-11 center contributed 11 points on 5 of 5 shooting including the first nine of the second half for the Owls.

Noteworthy Numbers…

2: When the game was 7-5 in UConn’s favor, it was UConn’s largest lead of the game. The only time they led in the second half was at the 3-second mark following Adam’s layup.

-1 to +8: UConn was able to steal this one despite an assist to turnover ratio in the game of -1 while Temple boasted a healthy +8 in the loss.
