La Salle used a strong push at the end of the first half to top Davidson and win their fifth game in a row by a score of 91-83 at Tom Gola Arena on Thursday night.

At First…

After falling behind 10-2 in the early going, La Salle went on an 18-7 run over the next six minutes to take a 20-17 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The two squads traded blows for the remainder of the half as the frame consisted of nine lead changes and three ties before La Salle would create some separation just before the half. Leading the way for La Salle in the first half was senior guard Jordan Price, who had 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting before the intermission. For Davidson, it was the duo of Peyton Aldridge and Jack Gibbs that did most of the damage as the two combined for 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting.

Turning Point…

After Davidson jumped ahead 38-33 with just over four minutes remaining in the first half and were running the break to make that a seven point lead, B.J. Johnson met Jack Gibbs at the rim and rejected a layup attempt to spark a 16-2 La Salle run to end the half that saw La Salle take a 49-40 leaf into the break. After La Salle's lead grew to as large as 15, a late push from Davidson cut the Explorers' lead to three with just under two minute remaining, but that was as close as the Wildcats would get as La Salle held on to secure the win.

Standout Stars…

Although Price cooled down after his strong first half, the redshirt senior went on to finish with 29 points, surpassing his previous season high of 26, which he reached twice in wins over Lehigh (11/30/16) and Mercer (12/22/16). Aiding Price’s effort was redshirt sophomore guard Pookie Powell, who added in 14 points, while also grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.

The junior Aldridge was nearly unstoppable for Davidson on Thursday as the forward torched La Salle for 33 points on 13-of-25 shooting while also reeling in a game-high 9 rebounds.

Noteworthy Numbers…

5: This win gives the Explorers a five game win-streak in Atlantic 10 play and also keeps La Salle in a two-way tie for second place with Dayton in the Atlantic. 10

57.4%: La Salle shot 35-of-61(.574) from the field in their win over Davidson, good enough for their third best effort of the season.
