Here’s installment No. 5 of City of Basketball Love’s state rankings, a package that will appear on Mondays throughout the remainder of the regular season.

We did showcase a set of preseason rankings leading up to the opening weekend (Dec. 9-10) and those groupings served as a starting point — since we’re going to continue to shuffle things around after each weekly cycle.

Appearing below are all six of our top 10s, with PIAA district and this season’s record displayed in parentheses. Only those schools competing for PIAA state championships are eligible for ranking purposes.

CITY OF BASKETBALL LOVE STATE BASKETBALL RANKINGS

CLASS 6A

Sean Colosimo’s 3-point bucket with 1.6 seconds remaining — off a dish from Andrew Petcash — propelled No. 6 Pine-Richland to an exhausting 65-63 victory Friday night at WPIAL rival North Hills. Petcash finished with 21 points, Colosimo delivered 14 off the bench and Andrew Kristofic wound up with 15 as the visiting Rams remained unbeaten. Senior lead guard Nick Smith, an all-state selection last season, rang up 32 points for North Hills.

Bullish matchups of the week: On Tuesday night, No. 5 Abington will try to defeat Pennsbury for the second time this season. … One night later, No. 6 Pine-Richland has an interesting matchup with Class 3A No. 3 Lincoln Park and Bowling Green recruit Nelly Cummings. … And on Friday, No. 8 Archbishop Ryan will visit No. 9 Father Judge in yet another Philly Catholic League collision. Ryan also must play on Sunday at No. 3 Roman Catholic, while Judge will begin the week with a home date against Class 3A No. 1 Neumann-Goretti.

CLASS 5A

Dylan Benton banked four of his 22 points in the pivotal final seconds as No. 2 Bangor rallied for a 66-63 victory over Bethlehem Freedom in the third and final game of the Yasso-Rothrock Christmas City Classic Saturday at Freedom. Ben Holland added 18 points on six treys and Reece Jones collected 12 more as Bron Holland’s Slaters remained unbeaten.

Bullish matchups of the week: Coming off Saturday’s 67-54 overtime win at Harrisburg, No. 6 Chester will need to bring its ‘A’ game Monday when it visits unbeaten Mastery Charter North. … No. 10 Penncrest will put its 12-game winning streak on the line Wednesday when it hosts Marple Newtown and again on Friday at Conestoga. Penncrest and Conestoga began the week as the Central League’s last unbeaten sides. … No. 9 Meadville figures to receive a stern test Friday when Strong Vincent, a ranked 4A side, motors into town.

CLASS 4A

No. 5 Bethlehem Catholic claimed a pair of victories in a 24-hour span — with the weekend wins coming on the same Bethlehem Freedom floor. Justin Paz totaled 34 points, Ryan Young rang up 32 and Will Melson wound up with 28 as Ray Barbosa’s Golden Hawks downed Freedom 58-46 and Lincoln Leadership 70-53.

CLASS 3A

Getting 20 points from Melik Martin and 17 more from D’Andre Davis, No. 5 York Catholic parlayed a strong first half Saturday afternoon into a 59-40 victory at No. 7 Lancaster Mennonite. Winners of 13 straight since a season-opening setback at Trinity, Blaine Claiborne’s Fighting Irish, ousted by Mennonite from last season’s District 3-AA playoffs, avenged that loss to Geoff Groff’s Blazers by bolting to a 29-12 halftime advantage. Javan Terry scored 15 points for Mennonite, which entered Saturday’s contest riding a 10-game winning streak.

No. 3 Greensburg Central Catholic played just once last week, but Dr. Greg Bisignani’s Centurions prevailed 77-62 at Summit Academy behind 24 points from Neal McDermott. Ben Hertzog and Jack Liberatore added 15 points apiece for GCC, which will host streaking Jeannette on Tuesday night.

Bullish matchups of the week: Everything starts Monday night in southeastern Pennsylvania, where No. 4 Church Farm will entertain ranked Class 3A club Valley Forge in Bicentennial League play. … No. 7 Our Lady of Sacred Heart has a tough week, visiting No. 4 Sewickley Academy on Tuesday night and No. 5 Bishop Canevin on Friday. … No. 2 Constitution will take on ranked 3A group Del-Val Charter on Tuesday at home, then cap the week on Saturday with a visit to Class 1A No. 1 Kennedy Catholic.

CLASS 1A

With Nate DaCanal and Gabe Kraus launching plenty of sparks, No. 3 Elk County Catholic maintained its perfect mark by closing out the week with wins over Class 4A sides Punxsutawney (80-69) and St. Marys (56-40). DaCanal and Kraus shared 51 points in the Crusaders’ triumph over Punxsy on Wednesday, then backed that up two nights later with a combined 35 points in the win over crosstown rival St. Marys. Ryan Newton also had a solid week for Aaron Straub’s club — ECC decked Sheffield 79-29 to open the week — totaling 38 points.
