Drexel picked its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season, running away from rival Delaware en route to a 76-60 victory at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

At First…

Despite making only seven shots over the game’s opening 17 minutes, Drexel led the vast majority of the first half thanks to a 9-of-10 performance from the foul stripe. It didn’t hurt that Delaware also struggled from the floor over the opening 20 minutes, going 9-of-25 (36 percent) overall and just 2-of-10 from 3-point range, committing eight turnovers as well. But the Dragons ended the half on a positive note, making five of their six final shots to take a 37-26 advantage into the the locker rooms.

Turning Point…

Though Drexel had already established plenty of momentum before the break, it was still on the Dragons to set the tone coming out of the half. Senior forward Rodney Williams did that with a thunderous one-handed dunk on his team’s first possession, posterizing a Delaware defender to send the DAC crowd into a roar. That was the first of eight straight DU points to open the second half, pushing the advantage to 19.

Standout Stars…

Rodney Williams, a 6-foot-7 forward, led four Drexel plays in double figures with 15 points, going 6-of-10 from the floor, including a number of powerful dunks; his frontcourt mate, Austin Williams (no relation), added 14 points and five boards before fouling out. Though he didn't get to double figures, junior guard Sammy Mojica grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 10 assists to go with his nine points.

Delaware was led by senior guard Anthony "Champ" Mosley, who had 18 points (6-11 FG) plus five rebounds; freshman guard Ryan Daly had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Noteworthy Number(s)...
1: Combined number of Colonial Athletic Association wins between Drexel head coach Zach Spiker and his counterpart, Delaware’s Martin Ingelsby. The two first-year coaches -- Ingelsby at his first-ever head coaching position, Spiker at his second after seven season at Army -- were both in search of their first league win heading into the weekend.
