The Temple Owls failed to capitalize on multiple late possessions as they dropped their first conference game, 56-50 at home against the No. 23 Cincinnati Bearcats Wednesday night.

At First…
After waiting six minutes to get their first point – a Daniel Dingle free throw – and eight to get their first field goal on a triple by Dingle, the Owls trailed 9-4 at the second media timeout. That shot ended up being the start of a 9-0 run that tied things up with about nine minutes to go.

From there, things remained close throughout the half, as an Alani Moore II triple capped of an 8-0 run that gave the Owls their first lead, 26-23, with a minute to play. Thanks to that run, the Owls were able to enter the break up 26-25 behind Moore’s six first-half points.

Turning Point…
Things remained close throughout the second half, with the Owls clinging to a slim lead for the first ten minutes. Cincinnati used a quick run to lead 45-39 at the 8:11 mark and force an Owl timeout on a Jacob Evans putback jam.

Temple began to find some momentum, cutting the lead to four, but a Jarron Cumberland triple gave Cincinnati a 51-44 lead with under four minutes to play that lasted throughout the rest of the game.

Standout Stars…
For the Owls, Dingle ended up with a team-high 15 points and four rebounds. Obi Enechionyia also finished with a double-double in the loss, with 10 points and 10 boards.

As for the Bearcats, Cincinnati was led by two different players with 11 points: Evans and Gary Clark. Clark also added six rebounds, while Evans had five.

Noteworthy Numbers…
26: Temple shot a dismal 26 percent from the field, but was even worse from three, shooting just 19 percent with a mark of 16-of-60 from the field.

3: Although it seemed Cincinnati held a vast advantage in terms of size and physicality, the Bearcats only out rebounded Temple by three – a margin of 46-43.

Up Next…
Temple (9-5) at Central Florida – Sat., Dec. 31 @ 9:00 p.m.
No. 24 Cincinnati (11-2) vs. Tulane – Sun., Jan. 1 @ 7:00 p.m.
