A clutch three-pointer by Devonne Pinkard powered the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens to a tight 59-56 victory over the visiting Marist Red Foxes Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

At First…
The first seven minutes or so of the first half were airtight, as the biggest lead was just three points. Freshman and Archbishop Carroll alum Ryan Daly put the Blue Hens up 12-9 with a deep three-pointer at the shot clock buzzer around the 13-minute mark, but Marist quickly cut the lead back to one within the next minute and a half.

Another strong play by Daly with just over five minutes left in the first gave the Blue Hens a 29-19 lead, their biggest in the half, just about a minute after senior Devonne Pinkard forced a Marist timeout with a wing three to put UD up 26-18. After a quick spurt by the Red Foxes, Delaware entered the break with the momentum and a 31-23 lead.

Turning Point...
The pesky Red Foxes continued to stick around throughout the remainder of the game, never letting UD lead by more than 10 in the second half. They even used a 7-0 run to tie the game up at 48 with just over eight minutes to play on a layup by Brian Parker. Another three by Funk game them their first lead, but that only lasted for 23 seconds.

The lead continued to seesaw back and forth down the stretch, as Marist entered the final two minutes up 53-52 off of a layup by David Knudsen.

A clutch corner three at the shot clock buzzer in the final minute by Pinkard gave the Hens a two-point lead. On the ensuing possession, Khallid Hart missed a three-point chance, but was fouled in a second chance effort. He failed to knock down both free throws, allowing UD to escape with the win.

Standout Stars…
Mosley made several key plays for the Blue Hens on his way to a team-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while also adding eight rebounds. Pinkard added 11 points and five boards, while Skye Johnson had ten points and five boards.

The leading scorers for the Red Foxes ended up being Parker, who earned a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds; and Funk, whose hot shooting – 4-of-8 from three – helped him finish with 14 points of his own, as well as five boards.

Noteworthy Numbers…
4:
UD still has yet to lose a home game; the Blue Hens are now 4-0 at the Bob Carpenter Center to start the season.

40: Although it may have been masked by the exciting nature of the game, both teams struggled to shoot consistently with each side making less than 40 percent of their field goal attempts. The Blue Hens shot 38 percent from the field and 27 percent beyond the arc.

16: The Blue Hens totaled 16 offensive rebounds and 16 second chance points, but it was a key offensive board by Daly that helped the Hens seal it, as he pulled down a missed free throw in the final two seconds to increase UD's cushion to three instead of just one.
