The Penn Quakers bounced back from their season’s first loss against Miami by picking up a dominant win on the road and rolling over Central Connecticut State by a final of 87-65 thanks to an all-Quaker second half.

At First...
It was a tight game in the early going, with both teams tied at 15 about nine minutes into the first half. The Quakers responded by scoring the next 11 points to open the game’s biggest lead at 26-15, capped by two Jackson Donahue free throws with just 7:39 to go before the break, and held the same size lead at 31-20 two minutes later.

CCSU, however, wouldn’t go away, outscoring Penn 9-2 to cut the lead to four before Max Rothschild made a jumper at the buzzer to send the Quakers to the locker room up 35-29.

Turning Point…
It didn’t take Penn very long into the second half to begin pulling away, quickly blowing up the lead to 19 within the first first seven minutes, highlighted by a three-pointer buried by Caleb Wood and capped by a Rothschild layup.

From there, the Quakers were fully in control on the road, as the Blue Devils had no real answer following what ended up being an 11-0 run. CCSU failed to pull within any fewer than 14 in the remainder of the game as Penn ran away with the victory.

Standout Stars…
Wood had a fantastic outing Tuesday night, particularly in terms of his shooting, finishing with a game-high 25 points on a red-hot 7-of-10 clip from beyond the arc. Matt Howard added another 21 points and 8 rebounds in the win.

As for the losing Blue Devils, the leading scorer was freshman Austin Nehls who finished with 17 points. Junior Tidell Pierre nearly chipped in a double-double effort, with 9 points and 10 boards.

Noteworthy Numbers…
45: Penn shot very well, particularly beyond the arc. Although Wood hit half of their triples, the Quakers shot 14-of-31 from three for a mark of 45 percent.

34: The Quakers also used a side advantage very well, outscoring CCSU 34-18 in the paint.

Up Next…
Penn (2-1) at Navy – Sat., Nov. 26 @ 12:00 PM
