Drexel, a team who won just one road game last year, punched in its most dominant performance in the early-going of its 2016-17 campaign Sunday afternoon, handling North Texas on the road by a final score of 83-62 behind an all-around balanced scoring effort.

At First...
Both teams experienced slow starts, each only scoring six points in the game's first eight minutes. It was the remaining twelve minutes of the first half that followed, however, that allowed the Dragons to open up a lead and find their rhythm offensively.

Drexel ripped off a 22-6 run over the next six minutes and closed the half on a 12-1 run to lead 40-21 at the half, behind strong performances from freshman Kari Jonsson and Kurk Lee, who had 12 and 10 points in the first half respectively.

Turning Point...
Out of the break, the Mean Green scored quickly and looked there may be some hope, but a drilled Miles Overton three-pointer silenced that quickly and gave Drexel its first twenty-point lead of the game and the season. It ended up being the way the Dragons closed the first half, combined with a strong start to the second, that cemented a result that favored the away team.

North Texas showed some fight midway through the second half, chipping away at the lead and pulling within 13 with 12:43 to go, but Drexel was back to its dominant self from there to once again hold a 20-point advantage just two minutes later.

Standout Stars...
Rodney Williams had his best game of the young season, leading Drexel with 20 points and six rebounds. Jonsson also had another strong showing, adding 15 points and chipping in three assists.

As for the Mean Green, it was Jeremy Combs who led the way with 15 points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

Noteworthy Numbers...
50:
The Dragons shot the ball very efficiently once they got their offense going; each of their field goal percentage, free throw percentage and three-point percentage was above 50. Most notably, Drexel went #-of-# from beyond the arc.

4: In beating North Texas, Drexel earned its first 20-point road victory since beating UNC Wilmington 79-57 in January 2012, the year Drexel went 29-7 and fell just shy of an NCAA tournament bid.

4: For the Dragons, the scoring was well balanced, with four different players – Willliams, Jonsson, Austin Williams (13 pts, 8 reb) and Lee – scoring in double digits.
