PITTSBURGH — Dayton, which last season shared the Atlantic 10’s regular-season championship with two other squads, has been picked to repeat in a preseason poll unveiled at the 14-team circuit’s Media Day festivities Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena.

Dayton, which received 16 first-place votes, barely outdistanced Dan Hurley’s Rhode Island Rams (12 first-place votes), for the first-team nod. VCU, which shared the title with Dayton and St. Bonaventure, was chosen to finish third.

PPG Paints Arena, formerly called the Consol Energy Center, will host the sprawling circuit’s postseason tournament (March 8-12).

La Salle and Saint Joseph’s — the latter captured the league’s postseason title a season ago, receiving the A-10’s automatic invite to the NCAA Tournament — were picked to finish seventh and ninth, respectively, by the voting media.

Dayton’s Charles Cooke, a 6-7 senior guard, was one of five players selected to the Atlantic 10’s preseason all-conference team.

Joining Cooke on the first-team unit are 6-0 Davidson senior guard Jack Gibbs, 6-9 George Washington senior forward Tyler Cavanaugh, 6-9 Richmond forward T.J. Cline and 6-2 junior guard Jaylen Adams of St. Bonaventure.

La Salle’s Jordan Price, a 6-5 senior guard who last season averaged 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, was a preseason second-team choice.
