One of the area’s top rising seniors, David Beatty has narrowed his list of suitors in advance of the July live recruiting periods that begin next week.

Before he’ll get out in front of coaches on the AAU circuit again over the next month, the Philly native who played his junior season at St. Benedict’s (N.J.) opted to cut his list to just eight schools: UCLA, Maryland, Connecticut, Indiana, Georgetown, Virginia, Temple, and La Salle.

Beatty had picked up more than 20 scholarship offers over the last couple years, dating back to his underclassmen seasons playing in the Catholic League at Archbishop Carroll.

However, his stock was boosted after a strong junior year with the nationally ranked Grey Bees, as he displayed a more refined handle and jumper to go with his natural athleticism. He continued his improved play on the Under Armour circuit this spring, leading his Philly Pride squad in both scoring (13.5 PPG) and assists (3.3 APG) with solid shooting splits (45% FG, 34.6% 3P).

With that came a slew of new high-major offers, with 12 schools joining the party since April alone.

From an area perspective, the most notable schools of the remaining eight would obviously be Temple and La Salle, as the Big 5 rivals both make the cut for the 6-foot-3 combo guard.

Both schools have been involved with Beatty for some time now, though Temple just recently extended an offer in April (the Explorers offered last December). The local product would be a major coup for both programs, as Beatty is considered a four-star recruit and is ranked in the top-100 nationally by most major recruiting services.
