In the aftermath of a cellar-dwelling season that saw Delaware finish in last place in the CAA standings, the Blue Hens will be now be losing their brightest star.

According to a report from DMVelite's Marcus Helton, sophomore point guard Kory Holden was granted his release from the program and will be transferring elsewhere to play out his final two years of eligibility.

Named to the All-CAA Second Team despite his team’s 2-16 conference record, Holden led the Blue Hens in scoring and assists this season, building on an impressive freshman campaign en route to averaging 17.7 points (third in the CAA) and 4.2 assists per game (fourth). A 38.8 percent three-point shooter, he was also one of Delaware’s only long-range threats.

He also received CAA All-Rookie Team honors following his freshman season.

Holden struggled from the field in both of his two seasons in Newark, failing to crack the 40 percent mark in either season. However, he was responsible for the bulk of head coach Monte Ross’ offense, boasting the third-highest usage rate and taking the second-highest percentage of his team’s shots in the entire CAA this season.

The Blue Hens will now enter next season without their two leading scorers, their leading rebounder, and their primary distributor, as Holden’s departure is compounded with the loss of Marvin King-Davis (14.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg) to graduation.

CoBL will have more on this story shortly.
