Orlando, Fla.--In yet another close, exciting AAC battle for Temple, the Owls took down Central Florida, by a final score of 62-60 thanks to a late run. Temple, which has now won three straight, sits just a game behind conference-leading SMU.

At First…
Temple and UCF spent the first ten minutes of the game trading punches; a Quenton DeCosey three would put the Owls up 10-5 early, but the Golden Knights swung the lead back into their favor with a 10-0 run.

The remainder of the half saw neither team lead by more than a possession until a late Temple spurt would have the Owls up 32-24; their lead at the break would be 36-32.

Turning Point…
After a similarly tight second frame, it took until the final minute for the game’s result to finally be no longer in doubt. There were five lead changes in the final six minutes of play, but the last of those was in Temple’s favor.

It was a DeCosey three-point that put the Owls up 61-58 with just over a minute to play. A few clutch free throws and defensive spots later, the game was theirs as UCF did not have enough in the tank to initiate one final lead change.

UCF’s A.J. Davis had a game-tying put-back called good at the buzzer but after further review it was clear that his shot was just after the buzzer.

Shining Stars…
Mark Williams, who was critical in the second half off the bench, led Temple with 16 points, going 7-of-10 from the field. DeCosey also had a nice afternoon, dropping 15 for the Owls.

For UCF, no player had more than 12 points, but 7’6” freshman Tacko Fall came close to a double-double with 10 points and seven boards.

Noteworthy Numbers…
517: This win over Central Florida was Fran Dunphy’s 517th, making him the winningest coach among the active Philly Big-5 coaches.

8: Of Temple’s eleven AAC league games, nine of them have now been decided by single digits. The Owls are 6-2 in those games, the most notable of which being a recent 89-80 win over then undefeated SMU.

Up Next…
Temple (14-8, 8-3 American) vs. Connecticut (Feb. 11, 7:00 p.m.)
UCF (11-10, 5-5 American) vs. Cincinnati (Feb. 9, 7:00 p.m.)
