Playing just its fourth game of the month, Penn was drubbed on the road, 81-58, by Yale on Friday night. The Quakers, who play again Saturday at Brown, are now 0-2 in the Ivy League.

At first..
Penn dug itself an early 8-0 hole, as Yale hit 3-pointers on both of its first two possessions. The Quakers were able to keep it relatively close throughout the first half, however, and the Bulldogs’ lead was cut to 31-29 when Sam Jones hit a triple with 2:55 remaining before halftime.

Turning point…
Yale went on an 11-3 run early in the second half to really take any hope away from Penn of a second half comeback. Penn went nearly five minutes without a field goal during Yale’s run.

Shining stars…
Brandon Sherrod
was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for Yale, and led his team with 19 points. Sherrod missed six of his 11 free throw attempts, but was flawless form the floor, with all his attempts coming inside the 3-point arc. Matt Howard led Penn with 17 points and was the only Quaker to score in double figures.

Noteworthy numbers…
The Quakers had just two turnovers in the first half, but gave the ball away nine times in the final 20 minutes. …Both teams attempted 50 field goals. Penn made 20; Yale made 30. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Quakers, 41-25, and only one Penn player (Dan Dwyer) had more than four boards.

Up next…
Penn (6-10, 0-2 Ivy) at Brown (Jan. 30, 8 p.m.)
Yale (12-5, 3-0) vs. Princeton (Jan. 30, 7 p.m.)
