As has been a theme for the Drexel, they let another close game slip away as the Towson Tigers walked out of the Daskalakis Athletic Center with a 77-70 victory over the host dragons.

At First…
Drexel jumped all over the Tigers in the opening moments, not allowing a point in the first three minutes on their way to a 14-4 lead six minutes in. Towson absorbed the punch and threw one of its own, taking its own 21-19 lead just five minutes later.

The Dragons would play some pretty sloppy ball down the stretch, turning the ball over five times in the last seven minutes of the half, but found themselves within one of Towson at the break, 36-35.

Turning Point…
Towards the end of the second half, Drexel held a 62-59 after a couple huge finishes around the rim by Rodney Williams. Two turnovers and a couple one-shot scoreless possessions later, the Dragons saw their lead disappear as Towson took its biggest lead to that point, 70-64 with 2:23 to go.

Drexel wasn’t done yet, fighting back to within as few as four, but that ever-so-quick stretch for Towson was enough to tilt the entire rest of the game in their favor.

Shining Stars…
Williams was huge for Drexel, scoring fifteen points, ten of which came at key points in the second half to keep the Dragons above water. Sammy Mojica also had himself a nice night, leading his team with 17 points.

The game’s leading scorer was Byron Hawkins for Towson, who had 23 on top of six boards and five assists. Mike Morsell and William Adala Moto each added 16.

Noteworthy Numbers…
56: Despite shooting 56-percent from the field, Drexel couldn’t overcome the turnover bug (14 giveaways). The Dragons even shot 7-of-11 from long distance.

11: Whenever Drexel did miss, Towson had a nice advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Dragons by 11, with a margin of 29-18. 21 of those rebounds were on the defensive glass.

Up Next…
Drexel (3-17, 1-8 CAA) vs. Hofstra (Jan. 30, 4:00 p.m.)
Towson (15-7, 6-3 CAA) vs. Delaware (Jan. 30, 2:00 p.m.)
