In another chapter of their roller coaster season, Temple dropped a surprising upset loss on the road to the East Carolina Pirates, snapping their three-game win streak by a final tally of 64-61.

At First…
After both teams went scoreless for the first two minutes, ECU scored the first basket, but wouldn’t lead again until the final three minutes half. Temple, despite controlling the first half, never led by more than five during its time on top in the opening period.

B.J. Tyson layup would send the Pirates into the break with a 28-26 lead.

Turning Point…
Entering the final minute another tightly contested second half, Temple and East Carolina were knotted at 61 apiece thanks to two clutch free throws by Josh Brown. Those game-tying shots would be the last points Temple would score, as Kentrell Barkley made an impressive three-point play to seal the win.

Barkley ended up finishing things off on the other end, ripping down the rebound off of Obi Enechioniya’s missed game-tying attempt, finishing things off for ECU’s big upset victory in front of the home crowd.

Shining Stars…
Enechioniya was a consistent scoring threat for Temple, dropping 18. Fellow Owl Quenton DeCosey went for a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

While Price Williams led the Pirates with 18 points of his own, Barkley was the key for ECU, scoring the game-winning shot to cap off a 13-point, 10-rebound, six-assist performance.

Noteworthy Numbers…
3: While three points ended up being what separated ECU from Temple, the three-ball was hard to come by for the Pirates, who shot just 17-percent from beyond the arc. Temple went 9-of-23 for a clip of 39-percent, but it wasn’t enough to push the Owls over the top.

Up Next…
Temple (11-8, 5-3 American) vs. South Florida (Jan. 31, 2:00 p.m.)
East Carolina (10-11, 2-6 American) vs. Houston (Jan. 30, 12:00 p.m.)
