NEWARK, Del.--With just six players on the floor, the Delaware Blue Hens came up just short of a first CAA victory, as the Towson Tigers held off the scrappy Hens for a final score of 79-77.
At First…
Thanks to a great first half from Cazmon Hayes, the Hens were able to stay right with Towson throughout the entire first half. Delaware’s largest first half lead, 18-14, came off of a three-pointer by Hayes.
He ended the frame with 12, but John Davis’ 15 first-half points led Towson to a slim 34-33 lead at the break.
Turning Point…
There were a couple occasions where it appeared as though Delaware’s fatigue was catching up to the Hens--most notably a 7-0 Towson run that opened up a 45-41 lead--but UD always seemed to have a response to stay in the game.
Shining Stars…
Kory Holden and Marvin King-Davis were both huge for Delaware, posting 29 and 19 points each. King-Davis had himself a double-double, adding 11 rebounds to his performance.
For Towson, Philly-native and Neumann-Goretti alum John Davis led the Tigers with 22 points while snatching 7 rebounds. Forward William Adala Moto added a double-double of his own, also scoring 22 points as well as 15 boards.
Noteworthy Numbers…
0: The Hens were unable to score a single bench point, in large part because of their bench consisting of just one scholarship player and two walk-ons.
11: Both teams struggled from the free throw line, missing eleven foul shots each; Towson went 23-of-34, while Delaware shot 16-of-27 at the charity stripe.
