It was a good seven days for St. Joseph’s and DeAndre’ Bembry, as the Hawks won twice and Bembry scored team-highs in both victories.
On Monday, the junior forward was given a pair of accolades for the pair of strong showings. Bembry was named the Big 5 Player of the Week, as well as the Co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for posting two double-doubles and averaging 22 points and 11.5 rebounds in St. Joe’s wins against Princeton and Temple.
As the Hawks struggled in a Tuesday victory against Princeton, Bembry carried the offense with 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting and also grabbed 10 rebounds. In their Big 5 overtime win on Sunday, Bembry had 17 points and 13 rebounds as St. Joe’s won the rivalry for the second year in a row.
Bembry is leading the Hawks in scoring (15.9 ppg) and assists (4.2 apg) and is second in rebounding (7.8 rpg), as the team is off to a 7-2 start.
Bembry split the conference honors with Davidson’s Jack Gibbs. Gibbs averaged 27 points per game last week as the Wildcats beat Eastern Washington and Western Carolina.
