Two Roman Catholic seniors have already committed to Penn State. A third is on his way -- for the weekend, at least.

Lamar Stevens, Roman Catholic’s new senior forward, confirmed to CoBL that he will take an official visit to Penn State this weekend. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing, who also has trips to Marquette and Indiana planned, potentially could follow in the footsteps of teammates Tony Carr and Nazeer Bostick, who have already verbaled to the Nittany Lions.

“Penn State, I’ve seen, but I want to see what they have to say, what’s changed over time and how they see me in their program,” said Stevens, who has already made an unofficial visit to the school. “And I want to see how I could fit in each program I visit. I want to meet with some of the new players on each campus and see how I could blend in if I went to any of the schools.”

Penn State, Marquette and Indiana are joined by Temple, Pitt, Villanova, SMU and Maryland in Stevens’ final eight selections. While he narrowed that list to eight in July, Stevens said he has not trimmed it any further and also does not have any other visits planned at this time.

Patrick Chambers, Penn State’s head coach, was in attendance Thursday for Roman’s open workout and will get to see more of Stevens this weekend. With Carr, Bostick and Oak Hill forward Joe Hampton, Chambers’ 2016 class is already one of the best groups of recruits Penn State has ever had, and Stevens would give it an athletic prospect who can score from the wing and inside.

Stevens, who thrives in the open court, averaged 15.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game playing with Team Final in Nike’s EYBL circuit this summer.

With people on the outside anxious to see where Stevens ends up, he said he and his family have no problem with taking the process slow and being as thorough as they can be.

“I want to wait a while to commit, just to see how teams do and to build more relationships,” Stevens said. “I was listening to a lot of people, and waiting is something I feel comfortable doing.”
