Pat Chambers landed a key player in Terrence Samuel when the point guard visited and announced that he would be transferring to Penn State from UConn. With two years of eligibility left, Samuel could be a good replacement for Geno Thorpe, who surprised many with his decision to leave the program earlier this month.

The 6-foot-4 Brooklyn native announced that he would be transferring out of UConn in May for undisclosed reasons. Samuel is coming off a sophomore campaign where he saw action in every game, averaging 20.4 minutes and 3.6 points a game.

A part of UConn’s 2014 National Championship team, Samuel was described by head coach Kevin Ollie in a statement as “a player who has always given his best on the court and in the classroom.”

While his offensive statistics may not be too impressive, Samuel has been known for his defensive tenacity. With Thorpe gone, his defensive focus will be much needed for the Nittany Lions.

Samuel will have to sit out this upcoming season due to transfer rules.
