Archbishop Carroll’s Ryan Daly has had a busy last few days.

The rising senior shooting guard recently visited several Ivy and Patriot League schools with his brother, Carroll rising junior Colin Daly, and parents over a span of four days. They kicked off with visits to Loyola (Md.), American, Yale and Brown this past weekend, and concluded with Holy Cross and Hartford on Tuesday afternoon.

Daly currently has offers on the table from Penn, Brown and Hartford. Other schools, including those Daly visited Tuesday and this past weekend, have also shown interest.

Daly said that before he went on the trip, he was not really leaning toward any of the schools in particular. Rather, he was looking forward to seeing all the different things each respective school had to offer.

“I wanted to see them all, kind of,” Daly said. “I wanted to get up to see Hartford, just because I hadn’t seen it in a while, and when my dad (former PSU assistant Brian Daly) coached at Boston University, they used to play American, so I wanted to see it there.”

“I really wanted to see Loyola (Md.) too,” Daly added. “The campus was really nice, it reminded me a lot of St. Joe’s. My dad got recruited at Loyola when he was a player too, so I wanted to go there and check it out.”

Daly also enjoyed his visits to American, Yale and Brown. At American, he was shown around campus one night and had the chance to participate in the program's elite camp the next day.

When it came to Yale, Daly liked the fact that the college was divided into a number of smaller sub-colleges, with several places on and off campus for student housing. Brown was also appealing to the rising senior, in part because of its location and up-to-date athletic facilities.

“[Yale] breaks down its college into 12 mini colleges where living is, so that was pretty cool,” Daly said. “Brown was really nice, Rhode Island is awesome. [Brown] has a main street right on campus with things to do, and they have a really nice weight room and sports facility.”

Daly knows that when he steps into a new role as a freshman a few seasons from now, there will almost inevitably be a learning curve. That being said, he certainly believes he can compete at either the Ivy or Patriot League level.

He is looking forward to the challenge and excited for the opportunity to play in a competitive league, both on the court and academically.

“Hopefully I can play right away as a freshman, but it’s not everything to me,” Daly said. “I like the Ivy League; one thing is the basketball is really good, and so are the academics so there is a little bit of both.”
